Why We Do What We Do

WHY DO WE WORSHIP GOD?
“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve” (Mt. 4:10) “O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the Lord our maker” (Ps. 95:6) “For all nations shall come and worship before Thee” (Rev.15:4)

HOW DO WE WORSHIP GOD?
“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and in Truth; for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. God is a Spirit; and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth: (Jn. 4;23-24) “For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus and have no confident in the flesh” (Phil. 3:3) “O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: (Ps. 96:9)

WHY DO WE STAND TO SING?
“And the Levites… stood up to praise the Lord God of Israel with loud voice on high” (II Chr. 20:19) “After this I beheld, and lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindred’s, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne and the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands; and cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb” (Rev. 7:9,10)

WHY DO WE CLAP OUR HANDS?
“O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with a voice of triumph” (Ps.47:1)

WHY DO WE LIFT UP OUR HANDS?
“Thus will I bless Thee while I live; I will lift up my hands in Thy name” (Ps.63:4) “Lift up your hands in the sanctuary, and bless the Lord” (Ps. 134:2) “I will therefore that men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting” (I Tim. 2:8)

WHY DO WE HAVE AUDIBLE PRAISE TO GOD?
“Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name” Ps. 103:1 “By Him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name” (Heb.13:15) “And after all these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honor, and power, unto the Lord our God. And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thundering’s, saying Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Rev. 19:1,6)

WHY DO WE DANCE BEFORE THE LORD?
Praise ye the Lord, Sing unto the Lord a new song, and His praise in the congregation of saints. Let Israel rejoice in Him that made him: let the children of Zion be joyful in their King. Let them Praise His name in the dance, let them sing praises unto Him with the timbrel and harp” (Ps 149:1-3) “Praise Him with timbrel and dance” Ps.150:4 “And David danced before the Lord with all his might” (2 Sam. 6:14)

WHY DO WE SING IN TONGUES?
For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray the under-standing also: I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also” I Cor. 14:15

WHY DO WE PROPHESY?
“But he that prophesieth speaketh unto to edification and exhortation and comfort” (I Cor. 14:3) “Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy” (I Cor. 14:1)

WHY DO WE SPEAK IN UNKNOWN TONGUES, AND WHY IS THERE INTERPRETATION?
“Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues” I Cor. 14:39
“But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal… To another diverse kind of tongues” (I Cor. 12:7,10) “If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret” (I Cor. 14:27)

WHY ARE MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS PART OF THE WORSHIP SERVICE?
“Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the psaltery and harp, Praise Him with the timbrel and dance. Praise him with stringed instruments and Organs. Praise Him upon the loud cymbals. Praise Him upon the high sounding cymbals” Ps. 150: 3-5 “And I heard a voice from heaven, and as the voice of great thunder: and I heard the voice of the harpers harping with their harps”(Rev. 14:2)

WHY DOES THE WHOLE CHURCH PRAY AT ONCE FOR SPECIFIC NEEDS?
“And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, Lord, Thou art God, which hast made heaven and earth… (Acts4:24)

WHY DO WE RECEIVE TITHES AND OFFERINGS?
“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” (Mal 3:10) “Give and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” (Lk. 6:38) “Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the Lord thy God which He hath given thee” (Deu. 16:17)

WHY DO SOME PEOPLE FALL WHEN PRAYED FOR?

“While he yet spake, behold a bright cloud overshadowed them, and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye Him. And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face” (Mt. 17: 5-6) “As Saul journeyed, he came near Damascus; and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven; and he fell to the Earth and heard a voice saying unto him, “Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?” (Acts 9:3, 4) So the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud; for the glory of the Lord had filled thee house of God” (II Chr. 5:14) “For the fear of the angel the keepers did shake and became as dead men.” (Mt. 28:4)
